Now
that Cobweb Solutions is managing our communications and messaging,
we no longer have to worry about any downtime. Nor do we have to
address any threats from viruses and spam as Cobweb has it
all under control. This means that we can communicate
efficiently with our employees, suppliers and customers. We are so

Online collaboration is another business

Within the group, Red Studios is the world's leading

in their cars. Redshop.biz is an online business learning

We chose to use hosted exchange because email is our most
important communication tool, reliability is important to us, and
because we want to be able to run our business from
anywhere in the world.
With the outlook web access and the Outlook Mobile service for
PDA's this has become a reality.
We chose Cobweb because email servers are complicated things and
we wanted a provider with the expertise and
resources to ensure reliability. In four years we've probably only
had about 4 hours of unscheduled downtime - they carefully plan any
scheduled maintenance for the times when you're really not going to
be wanting to use your email, like 1am on a Sunday morning! That's
why we don't want to have to manage our own email servers!
We don't have to worry about upgrades, patches,
hardware failures or anything else, and the monthly fee structure
also enables us to have a predictable cost of ownership without any
nasty surprises.
There's also the benefit of scalability. We'll be growing the
business quite rapidly over the next few years, and we know that
our email system can grow with us very easily -
new users can be added almost instantly.

Production company, Absolutely Productions decided a while ago not
to take rented offices on whilst we were not in production with any
project as we could continue to develop projects, in theory,
without the need for the monthly office rent bill. However this
meant that we needed a some sort of remote central
data hub for both email and the smallish amount of data
that everyone in the company would need to access. We had tried
simply parking our company server in a garage but maintenance costs
and the general pain in the neck quotient of having to look after
something like that 24/7 led us to realise that a solution lay
elsewhere.
At the outset I had no idea that such a thing existed but I
reckoned in the brave new world of severe cost cutting I wouldn't
be the only person that felt the need of this service. I trawled
the internet and found through a Microsoft software site for hosted
exchange on the SBI website a button to Cobweb. I talked through
our needs and they came back with what seemed like an ideal
solution on two crucial points. Firstly a secure 'home'
for company email and data managed monitored and upgraded 24/7, and
secondly a fixed cost for this service that we
could put into a sensible company budget instead of a finger in the
air and "this is what we hope IT will cost this year..."
Of course the proof of this particular pudding is does it work?
So far I have to say the answer is yes. The software works,
the service runs constantly and if for any reason
it has problems we are generally notified before we realise that
there is a problem. Any technical queries are answered quickly and
we haven't been bothered with any real viral threats so far. There
were a couple of annoying niggles with file names when we first
started which I think had more to do with Internet explorer than
Hosted Exchange but that apart it has been great. We are just
beginning to get busier than we have been over the summer so it
will be interesting to see if it is a robust with all the users
logging in and using the service but so far it seems to be fine,
and Cobweb's service and support has been really
good.
